Water ReUse: Are you ready?

There is a growing trend of water reuse due to water scarcity and sustainability goals. In February of 2020, the National Water Reuse Action Plan: Collaborative Implementation was released by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and its federal partners. This bold plan encourages collaborative and integrated resource planning to fast-track water recycling.

Not everyone is convinced by the safety of the reuse treatment process. However, reuse water is treated appropriately for its next use, from agriculture and landscape applications to industrial process water and potable water supplies. There aren’t hard rules or regulations in place, and states are the primary regulatory authority when it comes to water reuse. Two acts from the EPA, the Safe Drinking Water Act and the Clean Water Act, provide the foundation states can act upon.

For many Engineering and Construction companies, as well as local end-users, reuse is a new sector. With over 87 years of focus on water quality, Hach® is ready to help you meet regulatory, environmental and safety requirements with affordable and sustainable solution and service. WWTP effluent

While effluent from wastewater treatment facilities is commonly discharged to the environment, in reuse applications, there are many other options, such as agricultural and landscape applications, wildlife habitat or aquifer/wetland/march recharging, industrial process water, or direct potable reuse.
